EMW GALLERY Coordinator
The EMW Gallery Coordinator(s) will be responsible for the curation of the EMW gallery space by collaborating with artists and organizations to conceptualize art exhibitions. In the past, the Gallery team has consisted of two gallery coordinators that worked in conjunction to bring our exhibits to life.
EMW Gallery exhibits artists from marginalized communities, with works ranging from 2D to 3D and mediums from traditional to new media. The art space aims to give voice to the stories and struggles of underrepresented communities. Previous topics have included gentrification around Boston, humanizing news coverage, and love of / for intersectional bodies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with artists or organizations to curate an art exhibition, approx. every 2-3 months, with an event for Opening and Closing Night
Plan and carry out the installation of artwork in the gallery space
Work with our Design and Communication teams to produce relevant printed materials and digital publicity
Work with our Program Director to be informed of timing and nature of other events in the same space
Work with volunteers to maintain the safety of the artwork and to coordinate gallery opening hours
Ensure the program is a safe(r) and accessible space
REQUIREMENTS
High level of understanding and interest in art, organized and collaborative
Demonstrated ability to understand and develop art installations in line with artist's concept and organization's mission
Able to attend weekly programs meeting and commit to weekly check-ins with the Programs Director
- Combination of art education and arts programming experience preferred
Experience with gallery curation and installation processes
TYPE OF POSITION
8-10 hours per week
